Consecutive interpreting.

Consecutive translating is the oldest method of language transmission. The adjective “consecutive” means “following in time”. With this form of interpretation, the translation is therefore delayed. Consecutive interpreting is often used for specialist lectures or for a speech with an international audience in business and meetings when not so much space exits.

Overcome language barriers with translation.

Have you relied on consecutive interpreting for multilingual meetings up to now? Then we are pleased to present you with a time- and cost-saving alternative. Unlike consecutive translation, simultaneous interpreting involves interpreting into the desired target language while the speaker is still speaking. This saves an enormous amount of time in your meetings, as both the speaker and the interpreter can speak at the same time. The listeners can therefore follow what is being said with only a minimal time delay. With Qonda, we offer you a tool that provides the optimum technology for real-time interpretation. And the best thing about it? Your interpreters can work from anywhere in the world for your business, as they simply connect virtually to your event. With Qonda, your multilingual meetings (online and offline) will be interpreted cost-effectively in real time in the future.

How does consecutive interpretation work?

In contrast to simultaneous interpreting, in consecutive interpreting the spoken word is translated into the desired language with a time delay. The speaker divides his speech or presentation into individual blocks. The consecutive interpreters carefully monitors what is being said. Words, abbreviations and symbols are noted using a specific note-taking technique. When the speaker interrupts his speech to allow for a pause for the interpretation, the interpreter, based on his notes, begins reproducing entire blocks of the speech in the language to be translated. It is important that the interpreters reproduces everything that was spoken. The individual conversation segments must therefore not be too long, otherwise there is a risk that important content will be lost or not be reproduced precisely enough.

Consecutive advantages and disadvantages of interpretation:

The consecutive interpreters has more control and more possibilities to eliminate ambiguities. Due to the time-delayed playback of the spoken word, the interpreters can ask questions, ask the speaker to repeat it or find out unclear technical terms. However, staggered interpretation also means that the interpreter has to mentally grasp, retain and reproduce entire passages. Consecutive interpreting requires little or no technology. However, there are also clear disadvantages with this type of pre-interpretation. Due to the time-delayed playback, significantly more time is required for consecutive interpreting. The interpreter does not start the translation until the speaker pauses. This is where real-time simultaneous translation scores. If your event is to be interpreted into more than two languages, you should also rely on simultaneous interpretation in connection with Qonda for your business
